About Me

For 30+ years I have lectured, directed research projects, facilitated workshops and published widely on Higher Education learning, teaching and assessment. My M. Phil (1996) explored sustainable approaches to learning well before the term 'life-wide learning' was in existence. As a group facilitator in schools, further and higher education, I know the importance of ‘right relations’ and the potency of effective groups.
Some years ago I made a decision to work PT in Higher Education in order to achieve a healthy work/life balance and to utilise my management and mentoring skills and experience in the wider community, rather than to pursue, exclusively, a traditional academic career. I believe that my portfolio career (which includes contracts with numerous universities, the Arts Council, and a number of public and private employers) enhances my integrated approach to academic practice and to mediation and conflict resolution. Until recently I combine my freelance consultancy with a fractional post at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance where I was Course Director of the Post Graduate Certificate in Learnng and Teaching in Higher Education https://www.bruford.ac.uk/courses/pgclthe-theatre-performing-aers-pt/
Since retraining as a family mediator (National Family Mediation) and then undergoing further radical training utilising Nonviolent Communication (http://www.centreforpeacefulsolutions.org/), I believe that no matter in what context conflict may occur, I can
I have become proficient at utilising Nonviolent Communication (NVC)[1]. This is a process which asks such questions as: What allows some people to stay connected to their compassionate nature under even the most trying circumstances? The process tackles the need for individuals to be heard empathically, particularly when emotions run high. When we have ‘offloaded’ in a ‘safe place’ and feel truly heard, we are able to reconnect to the ‘compassionate self’. When reconnected to our compassionate natures we are more easily able to act in accordance with our personal and professional values and behave with integrity. I frequently use NVC in teaching, management, mediation, and mentoring roles where people are struggling under the multiple pressures of functioning professionally in 21st century work environments. I am a member of the Spiritual Companions' Network https://spiritualcompanions.org/

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there...
